Cool Winter Weddings and How to Swing Them

Long clear nights, and bright stars above. Deep lush whites and colors against dark wood.  Champagne and laughter, and guests dressed to the nines. Winter is made for magical weddings.

Setting the Scene

The season is a great excuse for an elegant black-tie only affair. Long formal gowns, tuxedos, and tails, anyone? The Black Tux is a great choice for your groomsmen’s tuxedos that I’ve recommended to my couples. You can pick one or more looks for your crew, and Black Tux has a try-at home program so you can be sure of a perfect fit with time to spare before they walk down the aisle .

Bring in Warmth and Light

Lush florals and candlelight inside, of course. But,if your wedding venue has an outdoor patio, definitely use it for the cocktail hour, instead of shuttling  everyone inside. String lights crossing the sky. Candles on the bar, and on each high table. If you’re restricted from using wax candles, flickering LED tea lights look gorgeous, too. Extra points if you put them in richly colored votives. Encourage everyone to go back to the patio during your reception by ringing it with plenty of  heaters, and setting up a hot chocolate station – or even better, a s’mores bar!   If you want to learn more about decorating and furnishing any open wedding space, download my newest e-book, The Silver Charm Guide to Bare Wedding Venues.

Cocktails, More Cocktails…

For a winter wedding, focus on specialty cocktails that your guests will love. Hot toddies, Manhattans, Brandy Alexanders. Ooh, and Here’s a recipe I found on Town and Country for a Mulled Malbec  that I can’t wait to try. No more worrying about left over wine!

…and Love Everywhere

These little touches, plus the intimacy, love and fun that’s a part of every wedding (watch for it) will create a wonderful night for you and your family and friends, everyone you love, who loves you. You’re going to have a fantastic time.

See you at the end of the aisle,

pps. The quote, “Cocktails, more cocktails, and love everywhere”, is from a sign my brother-in law posted at his wedding. I told him I was going to use it again, one day.
