"My Favorite" Monday: Photographer Beth Herzhaft

One of the best things about being a wedding planner is getting to work with people who are passionate about what they do. Beth Herzhaft is one of my favorite photographers in Los Angeles, and she was kind enough to share some of her favorite wedding shots, and why they’re so special to her:
“This is right before their lift into the traditional chair dance – What I love about this shot is its barely contained energy, with a lot of joy and a little bit of humor. Everyone is looking in different directions and seems to be feeling different things. Often, shooting a wedding demands that I be somewhat invisible, and the fact that I’m good at this means getting to the *heart* of the image. I don’t shy away from gutsy imagery or strong personalities – I welcome them. ”
“They seem to inhabiting a totally private world within the craziness for the dance floor and wedding reception. It really seems like time has stopped for a minute…. My hope is that when people view an album of my photographs that they REALLY get a feeling of who these people are. Beautiful wedding images are a must, but there should be MORE than just trendy, well retouched images – I want to see some SOUL in there. “
“This couple was AMAZING and is yet another reason why I enjoy shooting in a more relaxed and free style. This was a wedding in Reno, Nevada at a local wedding chapel. They had a really fun idea – It totally looks like we went back in time to a 1960’s LIFE Magazine (note that the second shot, the wedding portrait, was taken at a local thrift store there – Such a sense of joy!)
It’s my hope that my style encourages people to be as authentic and comfortable expressing themselves however they want to, since that is what is TRULY compelling. Life is too short to have someone else’s wedding.”
