Wedding Wise Wednesday: My Last Word on DIY vs. Buy (Los Angeles Wedding Planner)
Posted: November 20, 2013
The only thing I know how to make is dinner…and that’s actually pushing it.
I don’t sew, I don’t bake, I don’t arrange flowers (I wouldn’t even attempt to do this), and most of my interior design is done in batches. I don’t even put together invitations, any more. What I am is a good editor and a good researcher – I can tell you if something is going to look good,I can give you suggestions on how to make it look better, and I can show you how to get either one. And I’m Okay With That. But It’s A Hard Thing To Admit:

DIY is in, baby. And just like you, I love to ooh and ahh over the beautifully crafted hand-made pretty, I just can’t participate. Now, DIY’s sister Eco-Friendly, on the other hand, I can work with. I re-use, renew and recycle with the best of them. Fact is, I was an eco-friendly bride before eco-friendly was cool – I rented my wedding dress, and all of my vendors were within a five-mile radius of my house. And I’m pretty sure my invites were recyclable. 🙂 But here’s the thing. If you’re NOT usually a DIY kind of girl or guy, your wedding is not the place to pick up the bug. Learning takes time, and learning also involves making mistakes until you get it right. So, that’s a lot of time. If your budget is an issue, find what you want for what you’re willing to spend. If the environment is the issue or you really want something hand-made, find an alternative. Trust me, there are going to be plenty of things that are going to drive you nuts while you’re planning your wedding. Do yourself a favor and let this one go.
