Wedding Day Recap: Laurie and Luke At Firefly Bistro

Such a fun wedding! Laurie and Luke got married on Saturday at the Firefly Bistro in Pasadena, which serves the best Sangrias I’ve ever had, and very good food, too.

Laurie has a doctorate in Physics, and Luke is an engineer working on the latest Mars project, so it’s no surprise that their wedding cake, baked by Fantasy Frostings, looked like this. That’s a solar system map etched on the cake behind them, which led to one of my favorite moments, when one of Laurie’s colleagues came up to her and pointed out that the map on the cake was…inaccurate. Laurie turned to me and said, “I knew that was going to happen.” And she did, too, she’d mentioned it to me a couple of weeks ago! Only so much you can do on a dome-shaped cake. Sigh!

Instead of flower centerpieces, Luke and Laurie came up with this great idea to name each table after a city that was special in their own history. I stole this one and it’s hanging from my office wall at home. Well, stole with permission. I wanted the Pasadena one, but one of the guests got to it before I did. Laurie made all the signs herself, and I’m not sure it’s fair to be able to use both sides or your brain this well. Am I right? I took these pictures (duh) but next week I’ll have the actual pictures from Kenny Backer, who was awesome. Here’s a sneak peak:

DJ was Gary from Housego music, who kept the dance floor hopping – so much so that Firefly had to break down a reception table to make more room. Yes, THAT is what I call a party! This is the first time I was able to twitter a wedding (one of the benefits of coordinating a small wedding and a kick-butt assistant) so if you go to my twitter feed, you can read more about it.
